An interview from the archives with Russian Pole Dancer Lubov' Dobryagina. Lubov' Dobryagina's Stats:
Height: 165 cm
How did you find Pole Dance? Or did it find YOU?I would say we found each other. I was going in for some other dancing and I wanted to try something new. I searched the Internet and found some amazing videos with pole dancing without even realizing that it exists. So that was the way we found each other. Who taught you? Or how did you learn? My teacher was the person whom I definitely admire and whom I owe the basics of pole dancing and my whole inner understanding of it. Actually, she gave me all necessary things to learn further, and that’s what I do now. How did you think and feel back then, being a newbie?I thought that I finally found what I have been looking for for quite a long time, although I felt that there was a long way to go. And now?I still think and feel the same, I am just a little bit more confident. And now I definitely know that I chose the right direction. Where/who do you get your inspiration from?I get inspiration from many things – generally from various music and performances, from things and people I see around, and specifically from other pole dancers. Describe your dancing style in one sentence. My style is never endless searching of myself. What training regimes/Diets do you have?I do not have any special diets; as far as training is concerned I try to make it as regular as possible. How often do you pole? And how long for?At least twice a week. For ten months. What are your thoughts and opinions about the industry and pole dancing being more main stream now?Pole dancing would have never become main stream if it was not that much desired and popular in the society. I think this is a very natural tendency. How have things changed?People’s thinking has changed, they are no longer that much shocked when they hear about pole. It is very difficult to break stereotypes, and I am happy that the former stereotype with regards to pole dancing is actually changing in this country. What are your favourite moves? The whole process of moving around and on the pole is a pleasure. I cannot actually say about some particular favourites moves as there are too many of them. How long did it take you to nail those? It depends, you may succeed in some things almost immediately, and it may take you weeks and even months to manage other things. Who are your favourite dancers out there now?I try not to stick to someone particular as a favourite dancer; every dancer with his/her own style may contribute to your own development. What competitions have you entered? Or won?I took part in two Russian pole dance championships, and entered the final tour in one of them. What are your future plans for pole dance? To go on dancing and try to make other people believe that pole dance is amazing. Do you have any upcoming events?Yes, I do. They are mostly performances, not championships. What hints and tips would you like to share with our readers?I would like to share one simple thought, which may actually make any person happy: do what you like, and like what you do.
