Incase you missed out on Septembers issue of Pole2Pole Magazine. We were lucky enough to ask Pole Dancer Melody Rose of Hong Kong a few questions and here they are for you again along with her answers.
Name: Melody Rose Height: 5ft 3" Weight: 47kg Age: No woman should ever be quite accurate about her age. It looks so calculating. (-Oscar Wilde) School Name: Bobbi's Pole Studio Location: Hong Kong / Sydney Signature Pole Move: I will let you know when I have created one Favourite Song: 80s rock songs Can she do the splits: Yes.

How did you find Pole Dance? Or did it find you? I love dancing and I have always been looking for a dance that is fun, sexy and challenging. I had absoultely no idea what Pole dancing was before I started but I fell in love with it after my first class. It is exactly what I have been looking for.
Who taught you? Or how did you learn? Fabulous teachers from Bobbi's Pole Studio Sydney.
How did you think and feel back then, being a newbie? I was nervous and excited. I didn't know what to expect. Pole dancing is definitely one of the most challening thing I have done. You know, walking in those 7inch stilletos is already a big challenge, not to say dance in them. I didn't have much strength, and it took me more than 2 months to be able to do an inversion.
And now? Nervous and excited as ever. My strength has built up gradually. There are always new things to learn, new tricks, new style and new routine. Even though I have learned pole dancing for almost 3 years now, in my heart, I will always feel like a newbie.
Where/Who do you get your inspiration from? Other dancers, dance classes, tv, music, mtv, youtube, my boyfriend and my kitty cat.
Describe your dance style in one sentence. I love dressing up when I dance, so i always have something to take off. And I feel like I can dance better when I look better, don't you think?
What training regimes? 1 hour tennis, 1 hour golf, 2 hour boxing and 1 hour bowling (on wii). No, I don't do many other trainings besides pole dancing.
What diets do you have? Lindt orange flavour dark chocolate!
How often do you pole? And how long for? I have 2 Pole dancing lessons on Sunday, so that's two hours a week. I start my last minute "intense" (well, 1-2 hrs a day) training 2 weeks before competition. And I run through my routine 1000 times in my head, that's called imaginary training!
What are your thoughts and opinions about the industry and pole dancing being more main stream now? Is it? It doesn't bother me if it is in the mainstream or not. I like to keep the good thing to myself. Pole dance is great exercise. It's not a dance that you need to start training at 4 years old or those boring track mills and crunches. It is fun work out. You see improvement day by day. And it makes you feel and look fabulous. What's more important than that?
How have things changed? People like me who have gym fear now have a fun and sexy way to train. It is definitely a good thing. No one will see that I almost pass out after running 3 minutes on the track mill. Everyone is too busy looking at themselves in the mirror when they dance, at least I am. I have never been physically as strong as I am now and I got a cute butt, all because of Pole dancing.
What are your favourite moves? How long did it take you to nail those? I like many of them, as long as I can do it beautifully, gracefully and doesn't have to flex my feet. Straight leg lay back has to be my favourite! And I still can't do it. I can do many other things, but I just can't do this move. Seems like everyone else can do it except for me. So frustrated.
Who are your favourite dancers out there now? Bobbi from Bobbi's Pole studio. She is so beautiful and so nice. And where does she get all those choreographys from? There are only so many tricks you can do. How can she make every routine so different? She is just exceptional.
What competitions have you entered? Or won? Champion - Hong Kong International Pole Dance Competition 2009 Best Costume - Hong Kong International Pole Dance Competition 2009 Hottest New Talent NSW 2009 Best Butt NSW 2009
What are your future plans for pole dance? Keep dancing! I will enter more competitions to get my name out there. I also do shows in pubs, hopefully can start to teach in the future.
Do you have any upcoming events? Yeah! My birthday is coming up in October!
What hints and tips would you like to share with our readers? Love dancing, love training, love kitty cats!
